Craig DiLouie, LC, CLCP recently had the opportunity to interview Zach Schroeck, Director, Product Management, Lutron Electronics Co., Inc. for an article about “things every electrical distributor should know about lighting controls.”
Industry journalist Craig DiLouie recently had the opportunity to interview Thomas Leonard, Vice President, Commercial Controls, and Jeff Beyert, Vice President, Channel Sales & Service, of Leviton for an article about lighting control fundamentals to be published in the July 2023 issue of tED Magazine, the official publication of the NAED. The main question is: What does is the minimum every electrical distributor needs to know to begin to understand the lighting controls category?
In this episode of The Lighting Controls Podcast co-produced by the Lighting Controls Association and NAILD and sponsored by Toggled IQ, Gary Meshberg, LC, CLCP, LEED-AP, vice chair of the LCA and director of industry and market engagement for Digital Lumens/ENCELIUM, explains how to overcome reluctance to adopt advanced lighting controls.
Lighting Controls Systems may use a wide variety of lighting controls wiring to connect their systems throughout a project. How that wiring, which may use multiple conductors, connects from device to device is an important component to identify and specify on any project. A termination is the end of a conductor and it may facilitate proper communication between devices or help avoid connecting the wrong conductors to a device. Terminations will sometimes also have very specific landing points for its conductors known as “pinouts,” which maintain a consistent connection pattern for all conductors. This article discusses common terminations that a Lighting Controls Designer may come across.
“Coexistence,” “interchangeability,” and “standby power” are samples of some of the terms featured in Lighting Systems Terms and Definitions, a new publication by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association.
The Lighting Network breaks down basic versus advanced versus networked lighting controls in this short article.
A good lighting design includes a good controls design. Lighting controls play a critical role in lighting systems, enabling users manually or automatically to: • turn the lights ON and OFF using a switch; and/or • adjust light output up and down using a dimmer. This basic functionality can be used to generate these benefits [...]
