As the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building define their home cities, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis is arguably the Midwest’s most important icon. While the Arch gets all the visual attention, the national park it occupies is equally impressive. The 91-acre grounds of the Gateway Arch National Park recently underwent an extensive landscape re-design, including the removal of an existing parking garage, the creation of an elevated walkway, and several new walking and biking paths. And as part of this re-design, local company Randy Burkett Lighting Design created a complete new park lighting system, utilizing ETC’s Mosaic family of products.

This 18,000 sq.ft Glasshouse in the heart of an urban arts district offers a thrilling year-round escape to the fantastic spiny desert of Madagascar, and the butterfly-filled rain forest of Costa Rica. The Glasshouse was originally constructed in 2003, and this recent lighting renovation included replacement of existing 1000 watt metal halide luminaires to a fully LED lighting system.
The designers were asked to design the illumination for a 200-ft. pedestrian bridge; gateway to a 2-mile-square suburban village. But without any funds, the designers recognized that an extraordinary concept was needed to inspire funding. Through research, they discovered the original bridge once carried a historic high-speed train. They formed an idea to combine art, history and technology and create the allusion, or ghost, of this passing train.
A sculptural lighting design brings visual comfort and a compelling experience to the public spaces of this large office building. Integrated controls including media-driven processors, astronomical clocks, and project-wide dimming further reduce energy use and create kinetic lighting effects to enliven the occupants’ experience.
The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum in Albuquerque showcases the beauty, ingenuity and history of lighter-than-air flight in a building that has become a beloved landmark in its hometown.
