The National Lighting Bureau recently announced the winners in the 2025 Lighting Transformation Awards, co-sponsored by the National Association of Lighting Maintenance Companies (NALMCO). These projects recognize outstanding achievements in lighting retrofit projects that feature innovative solutions with minimal alteration to the existing building structure. This is the first year that a project is also being recognized with a Special Citation for Exemplary Design and Implementation of Lighting Controls, sponsored by the Lighting Controls Association. The winning project receiving the Special Citation is Washington State School for the Blind in Vancouver, WA, which also won an Award of Excellence.

The automatic lighting controls at a popular sports arena in Philadelphia were nearing the end of their life cycle. Arena managers needed to retrofit the lighting controls while ensuring events and operations were not interrupted. Leviton and Diversified Lighting worked with arena managers to replace aging lighting controls with GreenMAX Relay Panels, producing multiple benefits.

Lighting The Manufacturing Boom

The United States is currently enjoying a dramatic surge in construction in manufacturing infrastructure. This suggests fresh demand for lighting and controls and the expertise to properly apply them to industrial spaces.

2023 Rebate Outlook

In 2023, commercial lighting rebates remain a strong driver for adoption of energy-efficient lighting and controls in existing buildings. Notable trends include continuing stability in LED and control rebates, imminent jeopardy for some LED replacement lamp rebates, and growth for networked lighting control and horticultural rebates. A coinciding trend with implications for lighting upgrades is introduction of substantial rebates for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Buildings Upgrade Prize (Buildings UP) is offering more than $22 million in cash prizes and technical assistance to teams across America with winning ideas to accelerate widespread, equitable energy efficiency and building electrification upgrades.
