The Illuminating Engineering Society is seeking lighting professionals to participate in the 2021 IES Illumination Awards as judges for projects potentially receiving Merit Awards, including for the Lighting Control Innovation Award sponsored by the Lighting Controls Association.

DALI Awards Open for Entries

The DALI Alliance (DiiA) recently announced the call for entries to the inaugural DALI Lighting Awards. Held in association with arc (the international architectural lighting design magazine) and the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), the awards will showcase and celebrate the best use of DALI control solutions in lighting projects across the world while also recognizing the importance of producing great quality illumination.

The IES Illumination Awards provide a unique opportunity for public recognition of professionalism, ingenuity and originality in lighting design based upon the individual merit of each entry judged against specific criteria. If you have completed a project with a strong lighting design and/or lighting controls design, you can submit it in one of four program categories, including the Control Innovation Award sponsored by the Lighting Controls Association.

This month’s covered Lighting Control Innovation Award-winning project, part of the 2017 IES Illumination Awards, presents an innovative installation of lighting controls at The Speakeasy, an immersive theater installation on Broderick Street in San Francisco.

The designers were asked to design the illumination for a 200-ft. pedestrian bridge; gateway to a 2-mile-square suburban village. But without any funds, the designers recognized that an extraordinary concept was needed to inspire funding. Through research, they discovered the original bridge once carried a historic high-speed train. They formed an idea to combine art, history and technology and create the allusion, or ghost, of this passing train.

The Illuminating Engineering Society is still accepting submissions for the 2018 Illumination Awards, including the prestigious Lighting Control Innovation Award sponsored by the Lighting Controls Association. The deadline is February 12.
