In the fall of 2021, the Lighting Controls Association (LCA) invited subscribers of lightingCONTROL, its monthly newsletter, to participate in a survey. The goal of the survey was to determine satisfaction with LCA services.
The remainder included 64 respondents from manufacturing and rep companies (16%); design, engineering, or architecture firms (38%); electrical or building contractor firms (30%); electrical or lighting distributors (6%); corporate, government, utility, or other end-users (6%); and other (4%).
LCA asked respondents how they first heard about its website. The top three responses include an article in a magazine or website (37%), other industry organization (23%), and because a colleague suggested it (15%). Three out of four respondents (75%) visit the site at least once per month, with one out of five (22%) visiting at least once per week.
How did you first hear about or find the Lighting Controls Association’s (LCA’s) web site, LightingControlsAssociation.org?
The most popular reasons visitors come to the LCA website is to learn about a specific new trend or technology (67%) and keep in touch with what’s new in controllable lighting (62%). Other significant reasons were online learning at Education Express (43%), discover new controllable lighting products (43%), and learn about controllable lighting manufacturers (30%).

Among the respondents, 95% say they find what they’re looking for somewhat to very often at the LCA website.
LCA next asked respondents to rate site features on a 1-7 scale, with 1 being “not satisfied,” 4 being “somewhat satisfied,” and 7 being “very satisfied.” Respondents are on average highly satisfied with the content on the LCA website.
Looking at specific features, the most highly rated features are Education Express (6.2), monthly e-newsletter lightingCONTROL (6.1), general content (6.1), and articles by Craig DiLouie and other contributors (5.9).

LCA asked respondents if their engagement with the LCA website ever influenced their decision-making (62% answered “yes”) or choice of lighting control products (71% answered “yes”). When asked whether their visits to the LCA website ever influenced them to specify products manufactured by LCA members, 55% answered “yes.”
Finally, respondents indicated topics they would like to see LCA cover more on its website and in lightingCONTROL (checking all that applied from a list of topics). The most five popular topics are wireless control (80%), networked lighting controls (72%), control system design (66%), lighting and health (64%), and energy codes and regulations (63%). LCA will emphasize these topics in the coming year in its coverage of the lighting controls field.
