Lighting The Manufacturing Boom

The United States is currently enjoying a dramatic surge in construction in manufacturing infrastructure. This suggests fresh demand for lighting and controls and the expertise to properly apply them to industrial spaces.

Acuity Brands, Inc. recently introduced Design Select™, a portfolio segmentation and service program that supports highly configured projects on tight deadlines, all produced and assembled in the company’s North American facilities. The program provides customers with a broad selection of the most popular and readily available lighting and controls products and options in Acuity’s portfolio that can be shipped in 15 days or less.

Acuity Brands, Inc. recently announced the launch of its DC2DC architecture, a distributed low-voltage DC power and digital controls platform. The architecture eliminates the need to convert AC to DC power at the luminaire, resulting in efficiency gains and increased reliability of the lighting system, leading to reduced maintenance and operation costs.

nLight recently announced that it was awarded a LEDs Magazine 2023 BrightStar Award for Product Innovation for their nLight® AIR Wireless EM Solution. This solution is designed for projects with external emergency power sources, such as generators or inverters, and delivers a lower cost of installation than traditional solutions by eliminating the dedicated wiring used to sense normal power.

Available from nLight, part of Acuity Brands, the Adaptive Phase Control Dimmer (PCD) simplifies the process of designing, installing, and controlling decorative lighting.

The nLight AIR® rPOD Micro by Acuity Brands offers a stylish and versatile wall switch, designed to blend in with modern, sophisticated environments while providing convenient control.

The Haleon BTP series of fixture integrated occupancy sensors with dimming photocells by Acuity Brands/SensorSwitch™ are designed for standalone industrial lighting control applications.

Atrius, part of Acuity Brands, Inc., recently released its first State of Corporate Sustainability Report, an analysis of how organizations create, enact, and communicate sustainability goals. This year’s report, a survey of sustainability and energy leaders across a dozen industries, reveals that sustainability and technology have intersected to create a new megatrend – an effort to minimize the impacts of climate change while maximizing the impacts of technology.

LEDucation and LightFair are right around the corner, so be sure to register soon for these major industry events, both of which are occurring in New York City this year.

Acuity Brands Lighting, Inc. recently announced it has entered into an agreement with Biological Innovations and Optimization Systems, LLC (BIOS) to participate in the BIOS ILLUMINATED™ partnership program.

In this episode of The Lighting Controls Podcast co-produced by the Lighting Controls Association and NAILD, Robert Bell, Consulting Director for Product Market at Acuity Brands, talks about how switches designed for entertainment are making their way into architectural lighting and “architainment” applications.

Acuity Offers 2021 IECC Guide

The nLight® IECC 2021 applications guide is designed to help lighting practitioners increase understanding of the IECC 2021 code, apply it to spaces and projects, and use nLight® lighting controls on these projects.

SensorSwitch™ recently announced its Just One Touch (JOT) wireless solution is now listed on the DesignLights Consortium® (DLC) Qualified Products List under the category of Networked Lighting Control Systems. JOT enables single touch pairing of JOT enabled controls, luminaires, and other lighting controls capabilities without the need for 0-10V dimming wires, mobile apps, or additional software.

UL 924 changes became effective May 6, 2022 that make many industry-standard emergency solutions obsolete by requiring an input signal to indicate the presence of normal power. Acuity Brands’ nLight AIR embedded luminaires and emergency devices with EM options have been updated, offering compliance, significant savings, and versatile response to the loss of power.

Luminaire-level lighting controls (LLLC), also called embedded controls, are lighting control systems in which sensors and controllers are installed within luminaires to enable autonomous, individual luminaire control. By making each luminaire a control point, control is highly flexible, responsive, and therefore generally more energy-saving. Serving as a preview for an upcoming Education Express course, this article describes LLLC technology, system types, advantages and disadvantages, studies characterizing energy savings and cost, and what’s familiar and distinctive in regards to design and installation.
