Lighting Control Academy’s Design Express Selected for 2026 IES Progress Report

The Lighting Controls Academy is proud to announce that its Design Express documentation tool has been selected for the 2026 Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Progress Report, which showcases the year’s most significant advancements in the art and science of lighting. Selections were made by an impartial committee that evaluated submissions based on uniqueness, innovation, and significance to the lighting industry, and announced at the IES Annual Conference in Denver.

Design Express is a free set of standardized Microsoft Excel-based templates that combine Control Intent Narratives (CIN) and Sequences of Operations (SOO) into a single, cohesive matrix. The templates merge the high-level descriptive goals of a CIN with the precise, actionable operational rules of an SOO into one format organized by space type and control category, pre-populated to match 2024 IECC requirements and align with LP-16 best practices.

Currently, 10 building types and the 2024 IECC are covered. The Lighting Controls Academy is now expanding to 20 building types in all and the following codes and standards: 2021 IECC, 2024 IECC, ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1-2022, and California Title 24, Part 6.
