For 25 years, the Lighting Controls Academy (previously the Lighting Controls Association) has educated the building industry about lighting control technology and application.

Education Express: Since 2006, Education Express, a series of online courses recognized by major certification bodies, educated more than 50,000 students. On May 1, 2025, the Education Express curriculum was incorporated into a new learning management system, NEMA Academy. The new platform includes an enhanced website, comprehensive learning experience, and access to a broad and growing curriculum covering lighting controls in addition to other topics and categories such as lighting. Education Express courses are foundational as prerequisites for CALCTP certification via CALTCP and NLCAA and NALMCO’s CLCP certification, qualify for AIA/CEU credits, and are recognized by the DesignLights Consortium as furthering education in lighting controls. The Lighting Controls Academy is recognized as a continuing education provider in the State of California.

Video Courses: The Lighting Controls Academy offers short, free, engaging video courses covering a wide range of topics such as energy codes, how to design a lighting control system, commissioning, lighting control strategies, and technologies.

Design Express: At the Lighting Controls Academy’s Design Express, we provide curated training on how to design a lighting controls system, provide links to best practices at the Illuminating Engineering Society, and offer control intent narrative/sequence of operations templates based on the 2024 IECC that can help practitioners realize high-quality lighting control solutions.
